USE: foliar treatments
Lithothamnium is a powder extracted from calcareous red algae (Lithothamnium calcareum), which are mineralised on the Atlantic coasts of France and are characterised by a strong calcareous framework. The beneficial effects of the algae meal are determined by the rich content of calcium carbonate, magnesium and above all, trace elements.
This composition means that lithotamium has a wide range of uses in agroecology.
This powder is widely used in organic and biodynamic agriculture, as it performs several functions
– phytostimulant: the high content of calcium carbonate (80-85%), magnesium (10-15%) and trace elements makes it an excellent product to promote plant development and its self-defence capabilities;
– soil conditioner: improves the structure and pH of acid soils;
– anti-parasitic: lithotamnion powder creates a fine veil of calcareous particles on the plant, which is an obstacle for the mouthparts of insects that feed on the green parts of the plant and for the penetration of pathogens. It is an excellent fertiliser for vegetable gardens and orchards, in the dose of 5 kg per 100 m2 . It is particularly suitable for acid and humus-poor soils as it is rich in calcium, magnesium and trace elements.
Lithotamnion is also used to boost plant self-defence, the main treatment in organic farming is called NAB.
Preparation for 100 litres of water
1600 g Lithotamnion
300 g Bentonite
100 g of Sulphur soap
To the resulting suspension add: 100 g propolis solution and 2000 g sodium silicate (treatment to be carried out at bud swelling and after flowering)
The function of the various components is as follows :
– Lithotamnion : Supporter of microelements (calcium, magnesium, boron, manganese)
– Bentonite : Binder, supplier of magnesium, potassium, silicon.
– Sulphur: sulphur-bearing antioidic fungicide.
– Propolis : Fungicide.
– Sodium Silicate : Adhesive with insecticidal action by dehydration on eggs and larvae.
