Pheromones against the larva (caterpillar) pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa)
The larvae have their bodies covered with extremely stinging hairs. They always move in long single file (in procession). They feed on pine needles, causing much damage: defoliation of the pine, weakening of the tree.
Treatment with pheromones is a 100% ecological solution to eliminate this harmful insect.
The principle is to mimic the volatiles emitted by the female insect (female pheromone) in order to play a recognisable and sexually attractive role on the males. These are attracted and get trapped and eliminated. This prevents mating, reproduction and thus egg-laying.
Pheromones are used with a trap.
Main features pheromones for the pine processionary moth:
Action:
Treatment against the butterfly responsible for the pine processionary moth(Thaumetopoea pityocampa).
The adult insect is the processionary moth, best known for its larvae whose body is covered in extremely stinging hair. These larvae always move in single file (in procession). They feed on pine needles, causing the tree to defoliate and weaken.
The principle is to use the female’s specific pheromones to attract the male in order to trap him and prevent mating and egg laying where the larvae (worms) will be born.
Use:
Pheromones are used with a special trap and applied to the appropriate adhesive refills.
- 1 single pine tree >> 1 to 2 traps
- Alignment of pines >> 1 trap every 3 pines or 1 trap every 25 m
- Group of pines >> 1 trap every 25 m on trees on the periphery of the group or forest
- Several hectares of pine trees >> 6 to 8 traps per ha. Traps should be placed on the low branches of the trees at the rate of one per tree or one every 25 m along the perimeter of the forest.
Packaging:
In a box of 2 pheromone capsules. Each capsule is packaged in an airtight envelope.
Pheromone sachets can be stored cold (up to 3 years in the fridge – up to 5 years in the freezer)
Usage:
Each pheromone capsule is used immediately after opening the pouch. It must be placed in the small capsule container of the pheromone trap.
The trap + capsule are to be placed in the tree to be protected.
Treatment period:
June/July/August
Dosage:
